Basil Marinara Chicken Burgers

Iv’e been on this pretty big burger kick lately. A few weeks ago I posted a recipe for the mouth watering Pineapple Basil Turkey Burgers, and now I’m back at it. However, this time I’m using chicken, basil, skim mozza, and some tomato marinara.

These Basil Marinara Chicken Burgers are flavourful, moist, and extremely juicy. For this reason they are sure to be a crowd pleaser. I have cooked them numerous times for different friends and family, and they always get rave reviews (even from those “Beef Burger Only” critics!).

A lot of people cant fathom having a burger made from either chicken or turkey. It’s just not the “real thing.” Truth is, as long as their are some added herbs and spices, the taste difference isn’t that noticeable. In addition, it also only takes 2-4 weeks to adjust your tastebuds. Therefore, for those family members that have heightened taste buds, give it a few weeks and they wont even notice.

For a perfect pairing, these burgers go wonderful alongside Crispy Baked Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle Greek Yogurt Aioli. Not to mention they are a leaner choice compared to other burgers available, along with being healthy and nutritious (bonus).

To make the burgers, coat a medium-sized pan with cooking spray and heat to medium. Add onion, garlic, and oregano and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes. After cooking place in a large bowl and let cool in fridge.

When onion mixture has cooled, remove bowl from fridge and add 1 cup marinara, basil, parmesan, and ground chicken and mix well.Once mixed separate chicken mixture into 5 separate patties, place on a large plate in fridge to cool for at least 15 minutes. The patties will be somewhat sticky, and allowing them to cool will cause the patties to adhere together.

Preheat your oven to broil. While oven is preheating, turn on a grill to medium heat and add chicken patties. Cook on each side for about 5 minutes or until done and no longer pink in the middle.

On a large jelly roll plan place the bottom half of four buns and top each with one burger patty. Place about 1.5 tbsp each of remaining marinara on top of each burger patty, and top with 1.5 tbsp each of mozza cheese. Place the top half of the buns alone and upside down on the jelly roll plan. Place in preheated oven for about 1-2 minutes or until top of cheese is golden.

The tops of the buns may need to be removed prior to the bottoms due to browning. Make sure you keep a close eye during this process as they tend to cook very fast. When done remove from oven, add top half of bun, and serve end enjoy.

Now, here come all of those compliments on your amazing cooking skills!
